Happy Birthday to Q-Man (make that Q-Boy-turning-into-a-man-someday-but-not-yet-thankfully)

Nine years is in some ways a long time. In other ways it's the blink of an eye. I've now spent over nine years with Q; watching him grow from a tiny, ultrasound image to a kid who desperately wants an iPod for his birthday. How did this happen?

Q is our oldest child and an example to our younger two children - which basically means he is regularly pressured unfairly. He is often unfortunately subjected to our inexperienced parenting blunders. The kid takes this all in stride and is still fun, loving and optimistic... for the most part! He is special and cool and amazes me constantly, but he is also an "every kid" kind of kid and happy to be it. Q just wants to be one of the gang because friendship and play time is priority numero uno. He will be the glue that holds family and community together someday.

Creativity oozes out of Q and he loves to channel that into all kinds of artwork. In fact, he inspires his whole family to be more creative.

Q is nine years old now. He's a big kid with braces and hilarious wit. He rocks.

Olive Juice

I've been looking through old photos lately.. just 'cuz. These are some of my favorites, though it's very hard to pick. I hope my kids look at our "old" photos when they're all grown up and feel as nostalgic as I do looking at these:
